Valsana Hotel, Arosa is the first hotel in Switzerland to be heated by geothermal probes and an ultra-modern ice battery.Built to the highest environmental and energy standards, Valsana is spread across three new buildings with 40 spacious double rooms and suites, nine serviced apartments and open plan public areas. Interiors by the vibrant Swiss designer Carlo Rampazzi create a subtle blend of styles that reflect the alpine landscape and a relaxed atmosphere with vintage record players in the rooms, hammocks on the balconies and weekly film nights.
Set beside the lake, the hotel's restaurant Twist has beautiful views and al fresco dining on the sun terrace. Sustainability and the informal approach is also reflected in the dining concept with a focus on local suppliers and seasonal produce, healthy 'bowl food' style cuisine and a wine dispenser with Swiss wines.
Located in the charming Swiss alpine village of Arosa, Valsana Hotel is just steps from the main cable car at an altitude of 1800 metres and has easy ski in access. Alongside the 225km of slopes, other winter activities include snowshoe hiking, Nordic walking and 4.5 kilometres of winter sledge runs.
Open in both winter and summer, the hotel has two indoor tennis courts, a high-tech fitness studio, extensive spa facilities and a bike and ski shop.
Ice Battery
The ice battery is an autonomous energy recovery system which draws waste heat energy from the spa and everyday devices such as kitchen appliances and air conditioning units. This heat energy is then channeled through a water tank and leaves the system through heat pumps, reducing the temperature inside the tank, thus forming an ice block. The combined effect of freezing and thawing recovers high amounts of latent energy and produces virtually zero emissions.
